My name is Nicholas Harrison – I am a survivor of physical, sexual and mental abuse at the hands of my educators from kindergarten through grade 4. Once I was removed from the torment of the school I had to piece my fractured childhood back together on my own, as I was forced to keep the horrors of the abuse my secret for many years.
Today I am a fairly successful (on the outside) professional. I have a PhD and have accomplished many things in my life. However, to this day, I continue to struggle with the effects of the abuse and the mental anguish I endured as I pieced my life back together on my own and with the help of escapism through the Star Wars universe. The original trilogy became my therapy as I grew from an abused child through to young adult survivor. It is my hope that my own story will inspire others to speak out about this taboo subject and allow healing for other victims to be in the open and not something that is often highly regarded as a silent subject. I am not ashamed of myself. It has taken several years for me to come to terms with it, but I am no longer ashamed of me. I know that it was not my fault. I am on the Jedi path now, and even though I feel the dark side within me, the light is the greater force.
